Shock in Mombasa, Headteacher died from Covid-19

18 deceased in the Country, school closing again?

27-10-2020 by redazione

There are 18 deaths during the day linked to the Covid-19 virus in Kenya and, with a total of 920 cases, we are gradually approaching a thousand. But the country is in shock at the sudden death of the headmaster of the well-known Tononoka Secondary School in Mombasa, who died after being found positive of Covid-related complications.
In the same school and in the nearby Star of The Sea High School fifteen teachers have been infected and the two schools, which until now were opened only to allow students in the last classes to prepare for the state exams to be taken in March 2021, have been closed and will be sanitised, with the students themselves placed in isolation.
The peak of cases following the reopening of the schools in the country has caused concern among the teachers' union and parents, for fear that the schools may now close again.
Yesterday, the high number of deaths contrasted with the few swabs carried out, only 2126 of which 276 people tested positive for the virus.
In the same period of time, 220 people were cured of the disease; 150 from the home care programme and 70 were discharged from various hospitals. The total number of cures is now 34,429.
The distribution of new cases of Covid-19 in Kenya was as follows: Mombasa 71, Machakos 58, Nairobi 50, Kilifi 21, Busia 21, Kwale 19, Kajiado 13, Garissa 6, Nakuru 5, Narok 4, Makueni 3, Kiambu 3, Taita Taveta 1 and Tharaka Nithi 1.
