Covid-19 Kenya: percentage 3 times up after reopening

Health CAS: "A second wave is likely possible"

Percentages at levels again worrying in Kenya after the last round of swabs in the 24 hours prior to Tuesday 13 October, and the Government announces the possibility of a second wave.
318 Covid-19 virus positive patients were found out of 2592 swabs tested, a worrying figure for cases across the country. Although the percentage of asymptomatic patients out of the total remains high.
"A second wave is probably possible," announced the Kenyan Administrative Secretary of Health, Dr Rashid Abdi Aman, "today our positivity rate is over 12%. This is a dangerous signal. Public meetings and gatherings are a breeding ground for the virus. We are closely monitoring the situation in schools, but the risk of children transmitting the virus is low. Despite this, we will require testing in schools with the highest number of students to reduce infection. We have sufficient reagents for the next term".
There are currently 9810 active cases within the country, out of 41937 people who have contracted the Coronavirus since last March.
"However, we have had reports of infections on patients who should have been immune," revealed Abdi Aman. "The problem of reinfections on those who were already cured is a subject that is still being debated.
Yesterday too, deaths in Kenya were in double figures. 10 deaths in positivity, bringing the total number of those who did not make it to 787.
At the same time 243 patients were discharged, bringing the total number of healings to 31,340.
The Ministry of Health has particularly focused on the overloading of public transport in the cities, especially after the reopening of schools and universities.
"I appeal to all Kenyans to be vigilant, now more than ever, to protect the children attending our schools," said Abdi Aman, "public transport vehicles must not fill up and preventive measures must be respected to prevent new infections and transmission.
