In Kilifi County and Malindi the Covid-19 is starting to be a serious problem.
Surely this second wave of the virus has not spared the coast and we can no longer speak of the "Covid-19 Free" area.
Yesterday it was Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe himself, during the usual daily bulletin on the last 24 hours throughout Kenya, who spoke specifically about the town of Malindi, reporting 20 new cases and a general growth in the area.
The emergency was confirmed by County Governor Amason Kingi, who, as reported by the Baraka FM radio site and other media, said he is ready to close churches and mosques that will not comply with the virus containment measures.
"I would not like to close all places of worship," said Kingi, "but if we continue to see reckless behaviour, we will be forced to close them.
During his speech in Kilifi, he also threatened to order the cessation of movements in the County if it becomes necessary to stop the exponential growth of positive cases.
"I will not stand by while the cases of Covid-19 continue to grow," Kingi reiterated. "No, we could also order the cessation of the movement if people do not follow the guidelines to flatten this curve.
In the meantime, the Governor has suspended all sporting activities, including football matches.
In the meantime, as reported by County Commissioner Kutswa Olaka, more than 400 people have been arrested for violating Covid-19 rules and six bars not following the protocols have been closed indefinitely.
The official sources of the Ministry of Health, taken from all newspapers and online sites in the country, report an increase in Kilifi County in the last few days, while yesterday at the national level there were 18 deaths with a low number of swabs carried out (just over three thousand) there were 559 cases. The percentage therefore remains high, 18.1%.
