And the day came when Malindi recorded the first case of Covid-19.
The Kenyan Ministry of Health confirmed that among the five new positives reported by Kilifi County, two came from Kilifi, two from Kaloleni and one from the district of Malindi.
Until now, for 115 days, Malindi had been a Covid-19 Free area, although considering the few swabs performed, but also with very few cases of related symptoms examined by the County medical staff. From the first unofficial but reliable indications, it would be a truck driver, probably coming from the border with Uganda.
Yesterday also Lamu County, however, reported the first two cases of virus positive, becoming the 41st county to be somehow "infected".
Meanwhile, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Kenya rose to 6,070 after another 259 individuals tested positive in the last 24 hours.
Speaking at the daily Covid-19 press conference on Saturday 27 June, Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi said that Nairobi County was the first county to have the highest number of cases. In the same period of time, 2,718 samples were analyzed, bringing the cumulative samples analyzed so far to 165,196.
Also 35 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of patients recovered to 1,971.
Two other patients died from the virus, bringing the total number of deaths to 143.
"All positive cases are Kenyan, except three who are foreign citizens . said Mwangangi - it is 159 male and 100 female. The youngest is an 8-month-old infant and the oldest is 92 years old.
