MOH Kenya: Even youngsters die

More cases on the under 30 but isolation centers are empty

The Kenyan Ministry of Health does not want to let its guard down in containing the pandemic and is trying to make young people responsible, pointing out that there is an increase in cases among the under-30s.
"Out of ten deaths in the last 24 hours, three are young people under the age of 30 with no apparent previous pathologies," Health Director Mercy Mwangangi announced at the usual daily press conference in Nairobi, "the country is at a positive rate of 7.9% compared to swabs.
The figure, although lower than last month when the country was still in lockdown in the main counties and abroad, does not tend to decrease to the reassuring 2% of last spring. The cases reported yesterday, 426, bring the total count of contagions in the country to 31,441 but thanks to 257 patients declared cured, the cases still active in Kenya are 13,056, with a slight increase that brings us back to the numbers of last August 9, because in the meantime they were lowered, marking more cures than new positives.
As always, the Capital recorded half of the cases, while there was an increase in the Kajiado region (63 cases, many of them on the border with Tanzania). On the coast there were 16 cases in Mombasa, 4 in Kilifi and 1 in Lamu.
In the meantime, however, the number of suspected cases of Covid-19 in quarantine facilities has been significantly reduced.
Seventeen counties that have quarantine facilities do not house a single person in these centres, according to data provided by the National Board of Governors.
In a news release Thursday, the chairman of the National Board of Governors, Wycliffe Oparanya, said that out of 43 counties that had previously reported patients in active quarantine, there are currently 859 hospitalized patients, while 976 who were guests of the facilities were gradually released.
