Coronavirus, symptomatic patients in Kenya decreased. According to data transmitted by the Ministry of Health and confirmed yesterday by the national media, only 10% of those infected are currently sick. This percentage has been halved since a month ago, when the Ministry of Health itself confirmed that one in five cases of Covid-19 in the country belonged to patients who had shown symptoms of the action of the virus, albeit mostly mild. According to current statistics, 65% of the positives are male and the average age of those infected is between 35 and 39 years old.
Official Covid-19 cases in Kenya rose to 8,528 on Wednesday, July 8, after 278 individuals tested positive in the previous 24 hours.
At a press conference held in Makueni County, Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe said the new cases were confirmed after testing 3,053 samples.
A further 89 patients were released, bringing the total number of those who recovered from the virus in the country to 2,593.
Unfortunately, 2 other patients succumbed to the disease during the same period, bringing the total number of deaths to 169.
"I want to thank our health workers for their dedication and commitment - said Kagwe - I was particularly impressed by their level of preparation, in most of the facilities I visited. Makueni County, in particular, has employed 252 health workers in various sectors and is extremely organized, demonstrating a high level of preparedness. In addition, it has reached the capacity of 300 dedicated beds, requested by the Government, and only 44 cases have been registered so far".
Kagwe recalled that Kenya is dealing with a virus that is now well established at the community level and that only 5 out of 47 counties have not yet registered a single case.
"To all those who are exposed to Covid-19," the Minister said, "I want to assure that the Government is committed to ensuring that everyone who is at the forefront of treatment and containment is protected at all times, providing the necessary IPR and other essential goods when they are in contact with our patients.
