CORONAVIRUS

Encouraging data for Monday, June 22, are "only" 59 positive out of 2,354 tests carried out in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 4797.
During the press conference now held daily at Afya House, the Head of the National Health Department Mercy Mwangangi announced that 73 patients have been discharged and two have died.
The total number of people who lost their lives rises to 125, while the number of healed patients to date is 1680, with 2992 active cases.
All 59 new cases are Kenyan citizens, the youngest is 7 years old and the oldest is 66 years old.
Despite the huge drop compared to the previously unattained figure of 260 positive cases announced by Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe just 24 hours earlier, Mercy Mwangangi still warned Kenyans that the coronavirus spread rate is decreasing.
"We are working on a new communication strategy to remind the Kenyans that the fight is still going on," said Mwangangi. "Community broadcasting continues to be a challenge in the country and just because we see 59 cases today doesn't mean the scourge is decreasing.
Addressing the issue that appeared in the newspapers yesterday, which concerns 550 positive patients who have been discharged and included in the newly launched home care system, the DAC urged the public to play their part in the fight against the virus, helping to alleviate the current burden on health facilities throughout the country.
"We are aware that some counties are experiencing a surge in asymptomatic patients. The success of the home care system will require the participation of each and every one of us."
