Bar and restaurant cannot stay open after 4pm

MOH: "Curfew doesn't mean more time for alcool"

An extended curfew of two hours does not mean that restaurants can close two or more hours later.
Kenya's Ministry of Health reiterated that all restaurants must be closed by 4 p.m. as announced by the Government last April and reiterated by President Kenyatta on Saturday June 6 when he extended the main restrictions for the Covid-19 emergency in the country by 30 days.
On Friday, the head of public health Francis Kuria expressed his concern about the extension of the opening hours of the restaurants, noted a bit across the country.
"By the time the curfew was extended to 9 p.m.," Kuria said, "most restaurants have extended their opening hours and the activities in those restaurants are not what we expected them to do, especially serving alcohol. It's a real shame that it happened.
The Ministry of Health, for its part, has made it known that a definitive protocol for the proper functioning of restaurants and bars is being studied and will be released in due course, but in the meantime the previous rules must be observed.
"We ask the managers and customers of Kenya to take great responsibility in respecting the rules and at the same time we admonish those who will not respect them," said Kuria, announcing that the Government has asked the police throughout the country to make checks and possibly withdraw the licenses from the premises that will close after 4 pm.
"If we withdraw the license, it will be permanently eliminated - warned Kuria - If the permit is withdrawn, it will be useless to resubmit the application, because we will make sure that it is not accepted. We urge all the restaurants to respect the timetables, the curfew extension has been implemented only to give the employees of premises and other activities the time to go home, to do the last chores and not to break the lockdown".
