CORONAVIRUS

Fewer tampons during the weekend, but still above 15 percent.
These are the latest from the Ministry of Health of Kenya, which in its bulletin of Sunday 8 November recorded 719 new cases of Covid-19 out of 4732 tampons analysed.
At the same time, Minister Mutahi Kagwe announced that 912 patients have been cured of the virus and 130 of them have been released from the hospital where they were admitted, giving way to others infected. In contrast, 782 people have stopped using home care.
Unfortunately, yesterday 8 people succumbed to the disease and now total deaths in the country have risen to 1111.
The distribution of cases by county is as follows.
Nairobi leads with 336, Mombasa 8, Busia 50, Kiambu 45, Turkana 33, Kajiado 24, Kitui 21, Nyeri 20, Garissa 20, Nakuru 18, Kakamega 17, Mandera 14, machakos 9, Kilifi 4, Kirinyaga 4, Trans Nzoia 4, Homabay 3, Tharaka Nithi 3, Nyandarua 2, Meru 2, isiolo 1 Kwale 1, Nyamira 1 Laikipia 1, Migori 1 and Embu 1.
In the meantime, on Saturday evening, raids were reported all over the country, but especially in the big cities, in public places that remained open during the night and that, in addition to the curfew, did not respect the rules of assembly.
In Mombasa, County Governor Hassan Joho joined with police officers to personally find the locals and people who violated curfews and Covid-19 protocols.
During the operation, as reported in the national media, 10 bars were closed, 236 people were arrested for breaking curfews and 339 others were arrested for not wearing face masks. Some fled on foot and were seen jumping over balconies and into darkness, with the Governor's team in pursuit, like in an action movie.
I wonder if his colleague from Kilifi, Amason Kingi, will want to imitate him in the coming days. Even in Malindi and the surrounding area, nightclubs have been reported to be breaking curfew and staying open, with music despite the restrictions.
