Transmission is now local, tough measures by Government

There are eight new Covid-19 virus positives in Kenya, after the results of 1330 swabs were released in the last few hours. A number that highlights the Government's efforts to contain the epidemic as much as possible.
The Chief Administrative Secretary for Health (CAS) Mercy Mwangangi, on Sunday, April 19, announced that the total number of confirmed cases within the country has risen to 270 in the last few hours. At the same time there is a new death but also 7 patients recovered from the disease and discharged from the hospitals where they were hospitalized.
"One of the positive data that we are recording - said Mwangangi - is that we have managed to contain the cases of imports, which have now stopped at 56% of the total. On the other hand, the increase in positive Kenyan citizens who have not travelled abroad is a cause for concern. Now our efforts are projected on the possibility of local transmission of the virus.
For this reason, the Government's idea is to tighten the rules regarding curfew and violation of obligations such as not wearing masks or not respecting social distances.
"All those who violate the curfew rules will be considered to be in contact and will then be taken into quarantine for 14 days - warned Mwangangi - we are also using technological surveillance systems to arrest those who do not respect the evening lockdown".
According to the Kenyan Health spokeswoman there have been several cases of individuals crossing the various roadblocks set up following the cessation of President Uhuru Kenyatta's order of movement, using tricks or trying to bribe the police.
"No one has the authority to authorize anyone to move from Nairobi except the Ministry of Health" confirmed Mwangangi.
An in-depth report reports that 73% of Coronavirus cases in the country come from Nairobi and 20% from Mombasa, Kenya's two largest cities, but now almost all counties have at least one positive and several forty contacts.
