There should soon be an official communiqué from the Kenyan government about a partial reopening of restaurants and bars in the country.
This was stated yesterday in the margins of the daily press conference on the Covid-19 emergency by the Administrative Secretary of the Kenyan Ministry of Health, Dr. Abdi Aman.
Aman announced that guidelines for the gradual reopening of Kenya's bars and restaurants have long since been established by the National Coronavirus Emergency Response Committee, which will meet again today and will soon announce dates and modalities for the partial reopening of meeting and catering facilities.
The Ministry of the Interior and National Security had closed all nightclubs in the first instance, then on March 20 last year it ordered the closure of restaurants and bars from 7.30 p.m., and then three days later totally closed down all activities other than take-away.
Limited places and social distances should be the first rules to be enforced, but there could also be obligations to install sanitizing systems and other obligations to be followed to accompany the gradual reopening of activities in order not to cause serious economic damage to the entire catering and gastronomic hospitality industry.
