8 new cases in Kenya: "Virus is everywhere"

Mass tests soon in many Counties

14-04-2020 by redazione

Another eight cases in the last 24 hours bring the total number of Covid-19 positive patients in Kenya to 216.
o confirmed the Head of the Department of National Health Mercy Mwangangi, speaking to the media at the usual afternoon briefing in Afya House, the headquarters of the Ministry of Health of Kenya. A further 694 tests were carried out in the country, more or less respecting the average of tests carried out every day. A newly recovered patient was discharged from Mbagathi Hospital in Nairobi and there were no deaths.
In the coming days, as the Minister himself had announced earlier, mass swabs will begin instead. Mwangangi revealed that the first phase will involve at least 12,000 people, in areas identified as possible future outbreaks of the epidemic: Kibera in Nairobi, Mandera on the border with Somalia and Siaya, where there have already been two deaths and several forty. Sweeps will also be carried out in all the quarantine centres chosen by the Government.
Yesterday in one of these centres, as many as 32 people who had yet to finish their period of isolation fled early and lost track of them. They will be captured and arrested, after a clear anti-viral test.
"By now we can say that the virus is spread throughout the country," said the Chief of Health.
We need to understand in what terms and especially with what severity.
