CORONAVIRUS

Only people who are already sick die, that's what they say at the Ministry of Health. Administrative Secretary Rashid Abdi Aman also confirmed it. Whispering, so as not to authorize anyone to lower their guard on a virus that in reality, since it appeared in Kenya, has not taken root as in other African countries, especially those of the North, the Maghreb area and South Africa.
The timeliness of the country in closing down to foreigners and quarantining in public facilities anyone who entered Kenya, citizens and residents, has certainly contributed a lot to these results and it is hoped that the virus is losing strength now and is harvesting fewer healthy people.
Yesterday a further 59 cases of positivity were recorded, the result of 1518 targeted swabs, mainly carried out in quarantine centres where relatives or direct contact with cases already found had been transferred.
This was also the case, for example, in Kilifi County where one case was detected for three days in a row, in the quarantine centre in Rabai, inland Kilifi.
Unfortunately, among the patients who had been hospitalised for some time, five others had to succumb to the virus, but these were people with cardiovascular, respiratory or diabetes problems.
While the total number of positives exceeds 2000 (there are exactly 2021) and the active cases are 1468, eight patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of those who recovered to 485.
Of the cases reported today, the youngest is 24 years old, while the oldest is 76. 24 are female and 35 are male.
In terms of case distribution by county, Nairobi has 29 cases, Mombasa (14), Turkana (6), Busia (4), Taita Taveta (2), Kajiado (2), Kiambu and Kilifi, one each.
In Nairobi, the cases are distributed as follows: Ruaraka (8) Westlands (6), Dagoretti North (4), Langata (4), Kibra (3) Embakasi East, Kasarani, Kamkunji and Madaraka, all have one case each.
All eight Ruaraka cases come from quarantine facilities.
In Mombasa; Mvita (the old town) has 6 cases, while Nyali, Jomvu and Changamwe have 2 each. The other cases mainly concern border areas, where lorry drivers entering Kenya are detained and are subjected to compulsory swabbing.
Health Minister Mutahi Kagwem, who spoke and gave the numbers on the sidelines of the Madaraka Day celebrations, asked Kenyans to continue to follow the guidelines set by the government, including the use of masks, social removal and regular hand washing to combat the disease.
