COVID-19

The good news is that so far out of 179 cases of Covid-19 positivity, all monitored in public facilities such as Mbagathi and Kenyatta Hospital in Nairobi and Coast General Hospital in Mombasa, or in private clinics with intensive care, only one currently has worrying conditions and is still in intensive care.
The other 178 are defined by the Head of the National Health Office as "mild or moderate".
The hope is precisely this, taking it for granted that even in Kenya, as the contagion is being shown to exist and we have passed to the phase of "local" transmission, the hope is that the Covid-19 here is a little weaker, or that the Kenyans are a little more prepared to deal with it.
Yesterday, after the first day of the blockade of Nairobi County and its suburban area, only seven new cases were confirmed, with two discharged and 5278 swabs carried out, of which 305 in the last 24 hours.
Of the seven new cases, four are female and three are male. Four of them have a history of recent trips abroad. These are seven Kenyan citizens, five of them are residents of Nairobi, one is from Mombasa and one from Uasin Gishu County in the north of the country.
The Kenyan government has also announced the hiring of five hundred new doctors who will join the health workers already employed by state facilities in the fight against the pandemic.
"All private facilities in the country - said Mwangangi - in line with the law on public health, are required to share the results of their analysis with the Ministry. In addition to this synergy, we are also about to launch a partnership with the Safaricom operator to use Mpesa agents throughout the country for logistics and possible emergency distribution".
In the meantime, from tonight until the closing of the county borders of the capital Nairobi, the three counties of the coast, Kwale, Mombasa and Kilifi, will also join. At first it seemed possible to transit from one of the three counties to the other, meaning only one region, but then it changed its mind and every single county will be locked in and out. The case of two brothers of Somali origin found positive in the Mandera region, on the border with Somalia, after a bus trip from Kilifi, changing to Mombasa, then to Nairobi and Garissa and actually crossing six Counties, hastened a government decision that was already in the air.
