Italian Embassy: "No mandatory Covid-19 test to exit from Kenya"

Still airlines to decide if you have to show a negative test

12-01-2021 by redazione

To travel between Italy and Kenya, where there are no obligations in airport transits by the countries where the change of aircraft takes place, everything remains unchanged.
The obligation to provide an outbound tampon, as reported on the website of the Italian Embassy in Kenya, remains at the discretion of the airlines, despite the statement issued in recent days by the Ministry of Health regarding the use of the TT code (Trusted Travel) which is a security system to check the authenticity of the tampons. This system has already been implemented on the African continent and has also been approved by France, Germany and the United States, but has not yet had the effect of making it compulsory to present a negative Covid-19 certificate to the Kenyan authorities in order to leave the country.
In the same way, the requirement for a PCR swab to be taken no later than 96 hours before arrival and a QR code to be presented at ports of entry remains unchanged for entry into Kenya from Italy.
It should be noted, however, that the Ministry of Health press release assumes the obligation to swab with a TT code on exit for everyone. We will have to see what the Government decides in the next few hours, days, or even never.
This, however, is the warning from our Embassy.
The Kenyan authorities have launched a new online COVID test verification system for passengers arriving in the country, effective from 11 January 2021.
Arriving passengers will have to register and enter https://trustedtravel.panabios.org/ ; select the "Check in" option and choose the route of their journey; upload their negative COVID PCR certificate and enter their flight information. The procedure is used to generate a "Trusted Traveler" alphanumeric code in QR format, which can be requested at the airport.
Until this new system is fully operational (and in case the above procedure is not successful), travellers arriving in Kenya are advised to carry their negative COVID PCR test certificate, translated into English, not earlier than 96 hours after arrival in Kenya.
For travellers departing from Kenya to Italy, there is still no requirement to present a negative COVID certificate unless required by the airline or the country of transit.
If this is the case, travellers who carry out a COVID test in one of the laboratories authorised by the Kenyan government will receive an email and/or SMS from PanaBIOS with instructions on how to generate their "Trusted Traveler" code online (if this does not happen after a certain period of time, it is advisable to contact and request the laboratory where the test was carried out). Again, it is recommended that you carry your paper certificate with you.
