While the Kenyan Ministry of Health is committed to rejecting the accusations of corruption concerning the alleged scandal of the sale of masks and tampons donated by Chinese billionaire Jack Ma, every day the number of tampons analyzed in the country falls. There are those who see in the government's decision to limit the tests a preparation for the total reopening of the country by the end of August, but also those who are convinced that the controls of these days have slowed down the action of the national pandemic emergency staff.
Yesterday there were 245 cases of Covid-19 reported in the previous 24 hours compared to 3157 samples, confirming the downward trend as regards the percentage of positive per swab, which is always lower.
Total cases recorded since March 2020 have risen to 30365, but more than half of these have already recovered. Yesterday another 504 patients recovered from the virus, while 8 people died from Covid-19.
Nairobi has returned to prominence in the cases, always followed by neighbouring Kiambu. On the coast 10 cases in Mombasa and 3 in Kilifi.
Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe appeared before the Senate's Special Commission to argue that he was unaware of a national TV station's accusations about the sale of Ali Baba Jack Ma's tycoon donations. Kagwe reassured senators that he will be able to prove through records that masks and tampons donated by the Chinese billionaire were not sold to the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority.
