Kenya will decide what to do at the national level on 4 November after the resurgence of the pandemic last month.
This was established by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the end of a day in which the 1,000 cases of positivity were once again exceeded in just 24 hours, admissions to hospital isolation wards increased and the rates of positivity were stable above 10%, in fact two days ago they exceeded 20 and yesterday they reached 15.5%, with 1018 positives and 16 deaths.
Next Wednesday, therefore, the sixth extraordinary session of the coordination summit of the National Government and County Governments will take place.
In October alone, Kenya recorded 12,304 cases of Covid-19 and 223 confirmed deaths, but it is feared that there will be many more, both those infected in the country and those who died.
After the headmaster of the Mombasa high school, of which we have spoken in the last few days, the story of Kitui's family who, on returning from a holiday in Mombasa, contracted the virus and in the course of a week saw father, mother and daughter perish due to the disease, aroused much apprehension and emotion. Only the mother, a diabetic, had recognised previous pathologies.
In a country where serious cases have always been few and far between, people are beginning to think that the so-called second wave is heavier than the first.
The November meeting will consider the evolution of the disease and epidemiological models to try to predict how Covid-19 may spread in the country in November and December 2020. The effectiveness of the containment measures in place and the evident easing of the restrictions in place will be discussed.
President Kenyatta called on all Kenyans to continue to apply the simple but effective individual and collective measures.
He said that Kenyans should continue to wear masks correctly while in public spaces, always apply proper hand hygiene and adhere to physical and social distancing guidelines and protocols.
