The pandemic will not stop the traditional Christmas market in Malindi and Watamu.
For many years it was held close to the festivities in space in front of Watamu beach at Ocean Sports. Last year, with more than thirty exhibitors, it attracted hundreds of people.
This year the Covid-19 rules, which provide for respect for social distances and a ban on gatherings of more than 200 people, mean that it will be a quieter and more intimate but no less fun "Christmas Craft Fair".
But the real news are two more: the market this year will take place in Malindi, instead of Watamu, in the sea garden of the Driftwood Club on the beach of Silversand. And just to avoid crowds and give everyone the chance to attend it, it will be spread over two days, December 19th and 20th.
The entrance, of course, as well as free of charge, will be exhibited at the market. Every company, producer, shop, activity can book directly at the reception of Driftwood and will also have a warehouse where you can leave your things safe on Saturday evening.
At the Christmas market there is always a wide choice of handicrafts, creativity and products from Kenya but also imported. There is space for local direct growers, organic products, clothing, costume jewellery, flea market and much more, with the sure possibility of finding many gift ideas for the Festival which, although in a lesser form, this year is an opportunity to show affection with a present to our loved ones, to recover the humanity that this pandemic must teach us to cultivate in order to overcome the hardships of the difficult times in which we have been thrown into.
Anyone wishing to take part in the Malindi Christmas Craft Fair can contact Driftwood for information, by calling 072172489 or writing to reservation@driftwoodclub.com.
