Even more restrictive measures for Kilifi County.
They were decided by Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, in agreement with County Commissioner Magu Mutundika.
As of last night, even those who live in Kilifi County but work outside will no longer be allowed to return unless they have a special letter signed by the County, as well as no commercial vehicles, except for the transport of basic necessities exempted from lockdown.
No one will be able to leave Kilifi County, not even to transit only the other two on the coast, Mombasa and Kwale County. All special passes that were also given to central government employees have been withdrawn.
The decision was probably taken given the growing number of cases in the coastal town of Mombasa and the still too high transit between the two counties. Kilifi and its region, on the other hand, are still stuck with only nine cases of Covid-19 positivity.
In a letter to the Kilifi County Commissioner, Magu Mutindika, dated April 20, the county secretary and head of public service, Mkare Jefwa, said the borders will be closed from Tuesday evening (last night then) until further notice.
On April 6, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced the cessation of movements in and out of the three coastal counties of Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale for three weeks. The counties had been grouped into groups.
Jefwa granted law enforcement authority to seize all vehicles in the county without his approval, at all entry and exit points and on the outlying inland roads.
In fact, many transits have been reported from less well-traveled roads through the counties. These are mostly people who sneak across county lines for work or trade.
In fact, since yesterday, people living in Kilifi County who currently live outside their region have been locked out.
Anyone who breaks the rules will be placed in solitary confinement in facilities provided by the County Health Service.
"We would like to appreciate the concerted efforts of our government, especially the security agencies, to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 - says the letter circulated by Kilifi - There are clear challenges of the spread trends around our borders and surroundings, while ours has remained relatively and considerably calm at least for the time being".
