"Don't think we've reopened the country because we're containing the virus or we've beaten it, we're reopening for two reasons: to save our economy and to make people protect themselves and their neighbors, knowing that the opportunity to resume running their businesses cannot be separated from the Covid-19's rules of prevention and containment. That's why, if that doesn't happen, we'll be ready to close the country down again immediately.
The warning came directly from Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe who gave details of the latest Covid-19 bulletin, covering the 24 hours prior to the afternoon of Tuesday, July 7.
There are 183 new positives recorded, based on 2061 swabs tested in the country.
There are currently 8250 infections in the country.
Of the cases registered yesterday, 177 are Kenyan citizens and six are foreigners, with 119 men and 64 are women. The youngest is a 4-year-old boy and the oldest is 79.
Nairobi is the county with the most new positives, 100. They follow Machakos with 17, Kiambu with 14, Mombasa 13, Kajado 11, Nakuru 5 and Busia 3. Other counties have one or two cases.
In the Capital, the areas of Westland and North Dagoretti and the Kibera slum are of concern.
In the last 24 hours, 90 patients have been discharged from healthcare facilities, bringing the total to 2504 cures. At the same time three people positive for the virus have lost their lives, bringing the total number of deaths related to the Coronavirus to 167.
