Two screenwriters and a cartoonist tell the extreme life in a Nairobi slum.
These days in Italy, for Feltrinelli Comics, "Lamiere" is a comic strip story that tells a true story, that of the volunteers of the association Rainbow for Africa, guests of a convent of Franciscan friars in Westlands and socially engaged in Deep Sea, the slum near one of the commercial districts of the capital.
"The aim was to tell the story of everyday life in Deep Sea - explains Giorgio Fontana, author of the screenplay together with Danilo Deninotti, from his website - the lives of the inhabitants who survive amidst a thousand difficulties, in conditions of genuine social misery; the activities of Rainbow for Africa in such a context; the "non-welfare" aid methods put into practice by our host, Brother Ettore Marangi. But also reflect on the structural problem (why do slums exist in the first place?) and reveal our emotions and contradictions in the face of a similar situation.
The story develops in the daily life of the slum and is taken from the direct testimonies of its inhabitants, among a thousand difficulties, paradoxes but without pietism.
The colourful and involving tables are the work of the illustrator Lucio Ruvidotti, who takes us into a world that only those who have lived or visited can understand.
"Lamiere" is therefore the chronicle of a trip to one of the greatest African examples of social conflict, because this is Nairobi, where half the population lives in the slums. 
The three authors have chosen to narrate Deep Sea, its extreme poverty below human dignity. A slum among the least extensive in Nairobi, but among the most ignored and subjected to fires and evictions. For this very reason, perhaps, endowed with a very strong spirit of local resistance.
