Can a single pair willing to create educational foundations for entire communities of remote villages of Africa?
Carmen and Celestino, pensioners of Bolzano, have always thought it was possible, and they succeeded.
They did this by transforming each holiday in Malindi, from 2013, into an opportunity to transform a mud hut in the village of Kotayo, close to Marafa (the famous little town for its canyons, "Hell's Kitchen") at an elementary school.
Here, more than fifty kilometers from the coast, a few improvised teachers were lessons to a handful of children Kotayo and adjoining villages, no desks, no chairs and no blackboards,
In a short time Carmen and Celestine, with the help of the Missionary Group of Three Saints parish of Bolzano, have prepared an annual classroom concrete, the roof, bought desks and chairs, and lots of books.
"One thing at a time, was our motto - explain the two pensioners, struck a few years ago from a vacation in Kenya, which has now become an indispensable annual destination - we are not wealthy but we can every year thanks to friends to pick something" .
But above all, in addition to their donations and luck to have found of using premises that have realized the importance of giving a decent education for their children, Carmen and Celestine convinced the government to invest with them to create a school campus with all the trappings, in an inside area where completely lacked a structure accessible to many. So now Kotayo Primary School has seven of the eight classes and is completing the connection to the water.
"We have realized a dream for many children and their families - proud say the two South Tyrolean - to date the school has 275 children, many of whom did not study even before. But that's not all, the project for 2017 is a structure costuire sports, with football and basketball, and equip teachers with a library with 1000 euro of books ".
Intelligent generosity can not stop, because it is good for the recipient but also the soul of those who are healthy carrier.
