Prehistoric rock art is one of the least known but most fascinating cultural attractions of this country that never ceases to amaze us with its resources, able to thrill different categories of scholars as well as thousands of travelers who are not content to be just "tourists".
The manifestations of creativity of the peoples who have lived in the "Cradle of Humanity", especially on the border between Kenya and Ethiopia, for over seventy thousand years, are the direct consequence of the discovery of fossils of the first hominids dated millions of years ago.
The Italian Government, through the Italian Cultural Institute and the collaboration with the National Museums of Kenya, has for years been interested in deepening especially the rock art of the County of Turkana, on the north-western border of the country, which includes engravings dating back to more than 2,000 years ago. These precious artworks include not only geometric drawings, but also drawings of animals such as elephants or giraffes. 
Signs and symbols that take us back to a time when wild animals and different peoples lived together in the region.
The result of these inspections and related studies will be presented next Thursday, September 19, at 5 pm in the auditorium of the National Museum of Nairobi, in Kipande Road with the conference "Rock art, an African legacy" with the presence of Professor Savino Di Lernia, archaeologist and professor at the University La Sapienza in Rome, and the scholar Emmanuel K. Ndiuma, distinguished researcher of the National Museum of Kenya.
It will also be the occasion to inaugurate the evocative, fantastic photographic exhibition "Rock art in Turkana" by Paolo Torchio, Italian naturalist photographer living in Kenya for years, who immortalized with the skill, taste and professionalism that distinguishes him (often reserved especially for animals of the savannah) these rocks that tell millenary stories located in magical and unchanged scenarios.
