The safest holiday in the Covid-19 era?
For experts in the field, it is certainly safari and Kenya is reported, with Namibia and Botswana, among the world's destinations where (as soon as possible) to return to travel. With many doubts instead about Tanzania, because of the "denialism" of its government.
Two of the most authoritative newspapers in the United States, the New York Times and the Washington Post, have recently dedicated much space to safaris in Kenya, calling them a "must" for the intelligent (and wealthy) tourism of their countrymen.
But also from Italy and Great Britain on specialized online sites and among travel agents there is the certainty that wild Africa will be one of the first destinations sought by those who want to escape from this pandemic period.
What could be safer than a holiday in the savannah, in complete solitude and with natural and automatic social distances (and very short animal distances on the other hand), with the lodges that easily respect protocols and drivers that now have sanitizers on board in addition to the official mask next to the personalized water bottles (as you know you can no longer enter the parks and reserves of Kenya with plastic bottles or any disposable packaging).
Unfortunately, however, lions, elephants and giraffes will have to wait a little longer to be photographed by European tourists. In fact, many countries (including the top countries in Kenya, Great Britain and Italy) still do not allow their tourists to go to almost all African nations.
Yes to the gorillas of Rwanda because on arrival, the African state has a second buffer carried out at the tourist's expense, in addition to the compulsory one for the trip. Then the tourist will have to wait in the hotel, always at his own expense, for the result that will arrive from 24 to 48 hours later. From then on, the holiday is free, except for having to take a third tampon before returning home. On the same security line also Namibia and Seychelles, which have been "cleared" by many Western countries, creating a "corridor" in view of the end of the year holidays.
For the time being Kenya probably does not have the security requirements to guarantee European citizens that they will not have any problems during their stay abroad or on their return.
This is the main reason for the non-reopening that is bringing the tourism sector in Kenya to its knees, despite the fact that all of Africa accounts for only 5% of the global reach of the Coronavirus in the world and the cases of the entire continent only two days ago exceeded the 2 million infected, which is less than France alone.
