The first warning for the Italians who frequent Kenya is: be careful, the new Kenyan banknotes are already in circulation, although the old ones are still valid, at least until the end of September.
The second warning is: there are no paper money euros that have printed the image of animals of the savannah, nor that show somewhere the words "Republic of Kenya". 
If the size and type of paper and watermark are very similar, this is not enough to make 100 shillings (value about 1 euro), a note of 100 euros.
We give this information that seems trivial and obvious, because instead have already been found, a few days after the release of the new shillings of paper, episodes of fraud against Italians who lightly changed the old shillings into new shillings, believing they were euro.
Someone has also been convinced that Kenya has adopted the euro as its currency: then they have delivered to fake intermediaries (or "friends" of the street and beach) ten pieces of a thousand shillings to get in exchange a new banknote of 100 shillings. 
"We have received several reports of fraudsters in action - says Nelson Wanyonyi, Director of the Malindi Branch of Kenya Commercial Bank - we recommend tourists and foreign residents, especially Italians, to pay close attention.
For those who own banknotes of a thousand shillings of the old minting (but still valid) there is the possibility right now to exchange them in any bank even without having an account, if it is less than 1 million shillings (about 8500 euros). 
From today, more than ever, it is advisable not to change money on the black market and in the "squares".
