Masks: in Malindi after market now boda-boda operators

Another donation with sensitization by PWAM at Red Cross

05-04-2020 by Leni Frau

One category at a time, to raise awareness and provide tools for prevention.
These are the programs and objectives of the Progress Malindi Welfare Association (PWAM) that met last Thursday at Malindi Hospital the representative of fruit and vegetable sellers of the Old Market of Malindi and delivered to them through the Red Cross the fabric masks produced thanks to the voluntary work of the staff and owners of Eden House and funded by Olimpia Club, Jacaranda Resort and Passion Africa, yesterday met with the Boda Boda Association of Kilifi County and started distributing masks to them too, one of the most at risk categories for the transmission of the Covid-19 virus. Sabina Vivaldi, one of the founders of PWAM, and resident Mariola Saliola funded the first 200 masks, thanks to material provided by the Malindino tailor Shakir. At the meeting organized at the Malindina headquarters of the Red Cross, in the presence of the county's health and transport managers and the Chairlady of PWAM, as well as a member of the Red Cross board Kate Mwikali, an important work to raise awareness of boda boda operators was also launched, which hopefully will soon bear fruit.
There is still too little awareness of the danger of the Coronavirus due to its very high contagious power. While other fine initiatives by Italian residents in Malindi are reported, with donations of masks and disinfectants to families and villages, the request for donations to carry out prevention initiatives in Malindi and Watamu continues.
