Firms and shops to remain open in Kenya

Essencial products and items in the emergency

The Ministry of Trade and Industry of Kenya has decided to close all shops selling retail products or materials not defined as "essential" in this emergency period.
The Business Emergency Response Committee (BERC) has identified the producers and suppliers of the products listed below as essential to sustain human lives that will and can remain operational throughout the crisis period.
Because of their importance, workers and logistics suppliers for these sectors will need appropriate protection measures and/or special permits and transport in case of lockdown.
In particular producers and retailers of cereals, sugar, wheat products, confectionery, dairy products, processed foods, meat and meat products, fish, edible oils, cooking salt and spices, fresh, dried and processed fruit.
For beverages, in addition to water, fruit juices and both smooth and carbonated beverages, coffee, tobacco tea and alcoholic beverages.
For other products, manufacturers of essential clothing, such as medical masks and uniforms, manufacturers of medical equipment and essential supplies (e.g. oxygen), pharmaceutical companies, manufacturers of essential footwear (e.g. hospital boots) may remain open. Companies producing all types of hygiene products (detergents, toilet paper and handkerchiefs, tampons, diapers, etc.), agrochemicals and pesticides, mosquito nets, insecticides. Animal feed, petroleum and cooking fuels, spare parts for cars and motorcycles, plastic and rubber for special packaging, film, glasses, visors, gloves, etc. ... Essential paper and cardboard products, printers and similar. Production of furniture needed to set up temporary service facilities, mattress, pillow and linen factories.
All related shops selling the items listed above may remain open.
