Today's three new cases, according to what was announced earlier by the Deputy National Director of Health Offices, Mercy Mwangangi, are as many women between the ages of 30 and 61.
Two of them have been tested in County Kilifi, and they would be among the people who came into contact with the County Vice Governor, Gideon Saburi, who was declared positive a few days ago on his return from Germany.
Saburi had attended meetings with his staff as well as business lunches and a funeral.
The local authorities had already started on the same day to track down movements and possible infected by the local politician, who had not respected the quarantine.
The other woman was reportedly infected in Nairobi and was one of the people identified among the relatives of other victims of the virus.
Mwangangi then informed the press that at least 2,000 people had arrived in the country since Monday 23 March, confirming that they were all in isolation and would soon be tested with swabs.
"We have already tracked down 1029 close contacts of confirmed cases of Covid-19," he specified, "of these, 123 were released after a 14-day follow-up period. 18 people are currently in the hospital in Mbagathi awaiting examination. We are in the process of advising on how to manage Kilifi County and other emerging outbreaks".
