Low-cost airline Silverston Air, which operates domestic flights in Kenya, has announced the suspension until a date to be determined of all flights made by its aircraft, including those from Wilson airport in Nairobi to Mombasa, Malindi, Lamu and Diani.
The decision, arrived with an official statement of the company, is consequent to the decision of the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) to suspend the flights of the company's Dash 8 aircraft, after two accidents involving passenger planes and that fortunately did not cause casualties but so much fear. The conditions of these aircraft have alarmed the authority of the Kenyan Ministry of Transport, which has decided to suspend for a minimum of 8 days the flights operated by the Dash 8 and to reserve after necessary maintenance other controls.
Silverstone Air unexpectedly announced that all flights would be suspended pro tempore, even those operated with Fokker who could continue the transport of tourists and residents from Nairobi to destinations connected to their service.
The company has announced that customers who have already purchased flights will be re-protected or compensated. There are two emails to write to if you have already booked Silverstone tickets: refunds@silverstoneair.co.ke or reservations@silverstonair.co.ke. It is not yet known if and when the company will reactivate the services and moreover the site from yesterday is not reachable and the customer service of the company confirms that even that has been suspended. "Unfortunately we are not yet able to tell you when the services will be able to resume" is the answer of the telephone operators contacted by malindikenya.net.
The suspension has also caused inconvenience to many countrymen. Last Monday and Tuesday there was no re-routing, while yesterday those who had booked for Malindi and Mombasa were re-routed on SAX flights.
As always, as soon as we have further updates we will communicate them to you.
