Foreign ambassadors in Kenya ask Raila to be in the election

A document signed by 20 diplomats: "Politicians are tearing Kenya down"

24-10-2017 by redazione

Twenty of the most important foreign embassies in Kenya signed and made public yesterday a statement about the upcoming elections in the aftermath.
Readed by the U. S. diplomatic maximum Robert Godec, and signed among others also by the Ambassador of Italy in Nairobi Mauro Masons, the communiqué asks the leader of the Opposition Raila Odinga and his deputy Kalonzo Musyoka to present himself as candidates for the repetition of the elections for which they themselves had requested (and obtained) the cancellation on September 1.
"The Supreme Court of Kenya invalidated the vote on August 8th and, as required by the Constitution, called new elections within 60 days of the ruling - it is written in the Ambassadors' Communiqué - the IEBC Electoral Commission has done everything in its power to make the next round of elections credible and crystal clear, including the change of some staff members and alternative card counting systems. Now it is up to politicians to respect the will of the people.
The twenty diplomatic offices (Other to the USA and Italy there are France, Denmark, Sweden, Sweden, United Kingdom, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Spain, Poland, Australia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Ireland and Portugal) have also criticized the government party's request to change the electoral law.
"The politicians of this Nation are risking to bring their country into the abyss - Godec said - they cannot ruin in a few months all the good things that they have done in recent years to grow Kenya and its people".
Yesterday, President Kenyatta chose to meet with the Director of the IEBC, Wafula Chebukati, who had already requested a meeting last week.
Odinga, on the other hand, for the voice of her collaborator and lawyer Orengo, confirmed that from today they will resume the anti-IEBC demonstrations and against the making of the vote.
