When the Italians of Malindi manage to unite, only good initiatives can arise and a common cause can be easier to pursue.  It seems obvious, a phrase of rhetoric but for those who live and work as an Italian in this town is not, indeed I can assure you that it is one of the most difficult things to achieve.
Thanks to the initiative of the Italian Embassy in Kenya and the event that the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs puts on its program every year, this year the Italian community, through its restaurateurs, can show that they are united and want to promote themselves as a single entity.
This obviously does not automatically mean success, nor an immediate return, but it can be the first sign of a path that will surely give its results.
From this point of view, the day for the promotion of the world week of Italian cuisine, held at the Oasis Mall in Malindi, is a unique event and a starting point for promoting the Italian spirit of Malindi itself as an excellence, a common good that becomes an added value for the entire tourism sector.
We have been spending our time for years and we make every effort to show that it is possible to resurrect the tourist destination with this added value and certainly the catering and entertainment based on good food, drinking and meeting that can offer Italian restaurants are the key to relaunch the entire economy of a region in which tourism has always been the driving force.
Yesterday, all day long, thanks to the unity and availability of ten restaurants, an NGO and two Italian companies, one of import and one of dairy production, we were able to offer a taste of what will be the event on stage from Wednesday, November 27 to Sunday, December 1.
From 10 am we offered tastings and explained recipes, ingredients and philosophies of Italian specialties on display, to dozens of Kenyan residents, foreign tourists (including French, Spanish, German, American) and many unfailing countrymen. With the background of lyrical music, from Pavarotti to Bocelli, from Enrico Caruso to Beniamino Gigli, many surprised people could taste the panzerotti and sandwiches of Malaika Beach, the pizzas of Olimpia Club, Osteria Town and Kilili Baharini, La Malindina's croquettes and panzerotti, Karibuni's solidarity omelettes, Bar Bar, Osteria and Leopard Point's bruschettas enriched with imported products from Watamu's Taste Italy, MPL cheeses and Baby Marrow and Mimi Na Rangi's tarts. Two Kenyan televisions have filmed some moments of this particular day that involved passers-by and intrigued tourists. With a minimum expenditure and thanks to the participation of volunteers, we have promoted all the Italian gastronomy of Malindi and the catering sector, including those who have not participated and can only benefit from our commitment.
Now our efforts and passion are directed to the days and evenings from Wednesday, November 27 onwards: participating must be much more than a pleasure, it must be a way of showing appreciation for those who spend for the good of this town that lives on tourism. Reread the program of the week and see to participate in at least one of the events on the bill.
