For the twelfth consecutive time each month, plus other impromptu initiatives, the Malindi Green And Blue movement and the Progress Welfare Malindi Association are calling together responsible citizens, holidaymakers and institutions for the Malindi Clean Up Day, which has been held every second Saturday of the month since April 2019.
The initiative, as already explained on all other occasions, is not a simple cleaning of a part of the town, but a way to involve and unite different components of society and show everyone the virtuous process through which you can get to have a healthy, clean and attractive environment, also managing to give a job to many young unemployed people.
Thanks to these periodic exercises and our perseverance, tangible results have already arrived, such as the laying of many waste collection bins, areas where we can collect plastic for recycling, associations of citizens who separate waste and sell or reuse it. Teachers who educate their pupils about intelligent waste collection and realities that at the same time keep their neighbourhood clean and create revenue often for charitable purposes.
The final step will be to obtain, through public and private funding, the machinery to be able to recycle the various types of rubbish and to pay those who collect and transport it.
In the meantime, to show that the path is the right one and that we are not stopping, on Saturday, March 14th the cleaning will once again cover the beach of Silversand up to the Marine Park and the cleaning of the seabed up to the coral reef which was already scheduled for last January and then postponed due to the visibility conditions of the Indian Ocean.
This time groups of divers, the marine archaeologists of the National Museums of Kenya, the Coast Guard and the Kenya Wildlife Service will participate. On the beach instead, as always, confirmed the presence of the Kilifi County Environment Department, NEMA and the national police.
Appointment then Saturday, March 14 from 8 on the beach in front of the Tropical Village of Malindi.
