The Kenyan meterological service (KMD) issued a press release yesterday afternoon to alert the coastal population to a wave of bad weather which, according to scholars' forecasts, should affect the Indian Ocean wetlands as of today.
Today, today the rainfall, which can reach 30mm in the first twenty-four hours, will be evident south of Mombasa, to move overnight on the city.
From tomorrow morning on the other hand, the bad weather should move towards Kilifi and also affect the Watamu and Malindi areas, where the highlight should be reached (the approximation is obligatory when it comes to weather forecasts) on Thursday 21 September.
Then the low pressure area will move towards Lamu and is likely to leave flooding in the areas close to the Sabaki and Tana rivers and in the creekes of Mtwapa, Kilifi and Mida.
"The rain could also fall in areas where there has previously been great drought and for this cause flooding - explains the warning statement of the Kenya Meteorological Department - so it is recommended to exercise extreme caution in driving and moving".
Weather forecasters also warn fishermen and boat owners that they use extreme caution when going to sea, because of the strong waves that could be raised in the next few days.
