The political future of Kenya is still much more than uncertain, one month after the country's election-bis.
Yesterday, regent President Uhuru Kenyatta confirmed the opening of Parliament's work in Nairobi.
Although the Opposition warned him, stating that he would not have the powers to do so, since his statement at the recent elections was invalidated by the Supreme Court, it is also true that he was the Head of Government already before, and therefore he is simply continuing the work begun in the previous five years and not yet fully completed, given the recent vicissitudes.
On the other hand, Raila Odinga's NASA and its allies Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula, as well as not taking part in the first sitting after August 8th, threatened to boycott the re-run of the elections scheduled for October 17th, if their objections to the composition of the new IEBC Electoral Commission are not accepted.
Yesterday, for the first time, Uhuru Kenyatta spoke as a leader not in an ongoing election campaign, announcing the probability of an "impeachment" in Odinga, should he be elected president in the new election round.
It was a simple situation to predict, but of which no one had spoken openly yet: the elections to be repeated, as sanctioned by the Supreme Court of Kenya, will be only presidential ones, and not those national policies that have already nominated the Governors of the Counties and the MPs of the Republic. Members of Parliament who are in large majority (193 out of 349) of the Jubilee Party.
How can you govern without a majority,"Kenyatta rhetorically asked.
We have the numbers to do anything, also wanting to change the Constitutional Charter - he reiterated - and if Raila Odinga were to be elected President, we would take two or three months to ask and get her impeachment ".
The Opposition responds that Kenyatta, strictly constitutional, would need two-thirds of Parliament and valid reasons to force Odinga to leave her eventual role as Head of Government, but NASA's hesitation to participate in the vote on 17 October highlights the possible uncertainty of going to govern without the necessary numbers. As the Jubilee leader Raphael Tuju has repeatedly said, Odinga seems to be looking for excuses not to stand in the next elections.
But if that is the case - it's Tuju's thought - we will gladly accept his choice and continue to govern without any problems.
According to the site "kenyans. com", there would also be a plan to celebrate parallel to the popular investiture of Odinga as President of the "True Kenya". But such an attitude would inevitably lead to drastic decisions by the Justice, which on 8 September gave a favourable opinion in Odinga, but ordered that the new political process should take place in accordance with the law. If this were not the case, the Opposition would obviously be on the wrong side.
With today's meeting in Parliament and Uhuru Kenyatta corresponding speech, there will certainly be a step forward towards clarity and towards the near future of this nation politics, and not only that.
