According to the communiqué that was circulated on the net and that the spokesman of the Ministry admitted it was a proposal and not a final decree, it reads:
"Alcoholic beverages may not be sold to customers sitting in restaurants, bars, refreshment areas, entertainment venues, supermarkets, wine and liquor stores or in any commercial establishment and may not be consumed by citizens in any of these establishments or in any public space.
The penalty for people who deliberately violate this decree, by Kshs. 20,000 to 6 months imprisonment. So, buying alcohol will be allowed, but it will have to be drunk at home.
In addition, the statement continues: "Any business selling alcohol must operate between 9.00 and 19.30".
The Ministry of Health also hopes through the ban on the consumption of alcohol, which is one of the causes of aggregation, unauthorized parties and other aggregations, to mitigate the effects of the pandemic whose cases are increasing day by day. The last word will be given on Friday 24 July to the Council of Ministers chaired by Uhuru Kenyatta.
