One of the serious problems of Kenya and its coastal regions is decreasing positively from year to year and gives hope for the future. 
Infant and maternal mortality rates from Kwale County to Lamu County have fallen by an average of 50 percent over the past five years.
For the first time, maternal mortality linked to the birth of surviving infants falls within the world average of 362 per 100,000 births.
According to the Health Ministers of the six coastal counties, the result is due to improvements in health facilities and new equipment that have enabled increasingly qualified staff to provide effective services to mothers and newborns.
Speaking at a workshop on maternal health for newborns and children in Mombasa, coastal health officials, meeting in Mombasa in a workshop organised by the Safaricom Foundation, confirmed that the improvement of health facilities and maternity wards is constantly improving, as are numerous campaigns to raise awareness of the importance of obtaining specialised care. This process should ensure a 70 percent decrease by 2030 which is a credible goal.
