The National Traffic Authority of Kenya (NTSA) has decided with immediate effect to ban public transport throughout the country from 7 pm to 6 am.
This decision was taken on the very last day of a kenya annus horribilis on road accidents and their victims.
This year the saddest record for the country has been overtaken, with more than three thousand dead on the roads.
In the night between 30 and 31 December, another very serious clash left on the asphalt and between the plates of a bus that had ended up against a truck, 36 inanimate bodies. The accident occurred in Migaa, between the towns of Eldoret and Nakuru in the north-west of the country.
Hence the decision of the NTSA Director-General Francis Mejja to ban all public transport.
A decision that has certainly created inconvenience, with passengers who have requested and not obtained refunds from courier lines and matatu, blocked shipping services and passengers camping in the aprons and terminals waiting for dawn.
The decision, says the NTSA, is "sine die", or there is no deadline.
We are talking about six months, within which time drastic countermeasures should be taken against carnage on the roads.
They'd have to need checks on vehicles, drivers, less corruption by the traffic police and the issuing of licences.

Kill two birds with one stone.
There will certainly be a similar saying in kiswahili to say that at times not only can they solve the problems, but maybe they solve two at the same time, with a common action.
