The schools will be closed at least until the end of the year, and many activities in Nairobi and the industrialised north of Kenya are faltering and are planning to bring forward the December holidays, give extra days and leave to their employees, including management.
If we add that in the last few days rumours of a possible new lockdown have increased in some regions, including Nairobi, as well as Mombasa, Nakuru and Kericho, it is not difficult to understand why it has been hunting the Kenyan coast since last week for those coming from the capital and the surrounding area.
There are many hotels that are filling up every weekend (and not only) from now until the end of the year. Clearly these are often demanding travellers who are unable to travel abroad due to the risk of quarantine and difficulties in planning flights and hotels due to restrictions that change like the wind, looking for facilities and situations with services that live up to their possibilities and expectations.
"For some weeks now we have been in "full booking" - explains Antonio Colleluori, owner of the Leopard Point Beach Resort in Malindi - and the type of clientele is of a high level. This allows us not only to keep open but also to continue to offer quality services".
Other facilities in Malindi, Watamu, Nyali and Diani also smile at the presence of local tourism, always with the utmost attention to contain the virus, since Nairobi, with its neighbouring counties such as Kiambu and Nakuru are among the most infected.
"We enjoy a week's holiday in the heat between swimming pool and pizza, before returning to Nairobi with the fear of a new lockdown," J.Machuki comments serenely talking to us about malindikenya.net, in Malindi with his girlfriend.
Also yesterday Kenya recorded a slightly higher percentage of cases per swab than 10, with 631 positive out of 6142 swabs analyzed in the 24 hours prior to yesterday, Friday 23 October.
Of the positive cases, 596 are Kenyan and 35 are foreign.
In the same period, 371 patients were discharged: 313 from home care and 58 from the various hospitals in the country, bringing the total number of admissions to 33,421.
On the other hand, 14 people lost their lives due to the disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 884.
Currently in Kenya, there are 20 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 59 with supplementary oxygen and 16 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
A further 1,142 patients are hospitalised in various healthcare facilities, while 3,238 are in isolation and home care.
In the distribution of cases by Counties, Nairobi leads with 235 cases, followed by Mombasa with 76, Kilifi (52), Uasin Gishu (28), Bungoma (23), Busia (23), Kiambu (22), Machakos (21), Nyeri (15), Kajiado (13), Homabay and Kisii (12), Trans Nzoia (11), Meru (10), Siaya (7), Turkana and Elgeyo Marakwet (6), Kakamega (4), Marsabit, Nakuru, Narok and Embu (3), Nyamira, Nandi, Makueni and Vihiga (2) while Nyandarua, Tharaka Nithi, Murang'a, Isiolo and Kwale each reported one case.
Specifically, in Kilifi County, 21 cases were reported in Magarini, 18 in Malindi, 9 in South Kilifi, 2 in North Kilifi and one each in Kaloleni and Rabai.
