An APP developed in Kenya to get prescription drugs and find them in the nearest pharmacy.
The intelligent pharmaceutical and telematic invention is called "My Dawa" (where "dawa" in Swahili stands for "medicine") and was developed by ION Equity.
By downloading it on your mobile phone, every Kenyan will have the opportunity to know, depending on his symptoms, which medication he should look for, just as if he were consulting the pharmacist behind the counter of the shop. After that, localized the client, the APP will be able to advise the nearest pharmacy and, if desired, to book the medicine and pay it through Mpesa.
It is an e-commerce solution that cancels distances and the difficulty for Kenyans to travel along them, convenient for example, to warn a relative or a person in the same village or village to pass from the nearest shop to withdraw a medicine, which has already been paid.
The same thing can be done, for example, using a boda boda.
Behind this App there is a huge amount of work - My Dawa's director, Tony Wood, explained - especially to map and insert shops and products and provide them. Efficiency in the supply chain is essential for app development. With My Dawa you can enter, browse the products, select them and check them, but you will also have the opportunity to send your request. The online pharmacist will translate it into medicine and put it in the shopping cart. When you pay with Mpesa the product will be available in the selected shop ".
The idea started with the Irish researcher Neal O' Leary, who two years ago first realized that in a country like Kenya, reducing the transport of medicines, it was possible to reduce costs and prevent the quality of products from deteriorating.  So pharmacies will be provided with generic medicines, almost all of them from India. 
In Nairobi "My Dawa" is already active 220 stores, the App has been downloaded by 10,000 users and the virtual warehouse already has 1000 drugs.
Soon the services will be extended to Kenya as a whole.
We have started with common drugs, such as antibiotics and painkillers - explains Wood - those that make up most of the generic prescriptions. But we are also focusing on non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and the like. We are also working with other manufacturers in Europe and the Middle East to provide us with other product ranges, such as multi-vitamins especially for children, dietary supplements and skin care products.
The investment of the ION is very important, we talk about 5 million dollars.
