It will be an American firm, the Betchel of San Francisco, to build the fast multi-lane highway from Mombasa to Nairobi.
The agreement, signed yesterday by the National Company Keniota Autostrade (KENHA) and the company that has won the contract, thanks to funding coming from the United States, provides a new highway on the American model with three lanes for every direction, Which will link the industrial port of Mombasa to the capital.
The road will run alongside the current Mombasa-Nairobi, will be 473 kilometers long and will have the entrances delimited by highway tolls as it will be a freeway. The receipts from the route will be invested for the maintenance of the same.
Kenya National Highway Autority Director General Peter Mundinia said that work on the "American" highway will start early next year.
