Any future for italians in Kenya?

Waiting for the decisions of the 2 Countries

31-08-2020 by Freddie del Curatolo

Only two are the certainties that concern the Italians in Kenya in this wretched and prolonged period (prolonged wretched or wretchedly prolonged according to the visions and opinions): one is that we are at the historical minimum of presences, and we are not only talking about tourists.
The second is that the desire to return there for those who have been forced to give it up for a long time is always great.
In fact, what is missing are not the Italians who express their postulates, that there are too many of them scattered among the social networks, but it is the certainties. It being understood that almost everyone has forgotten that, as the Supreme Poet teaches, when "there is no certainty about tomorrow" one could also be happy and not only howling or angry dogs.
Coming to the doubts regarding the repopulation of homo italicus in the Land of Mangos and Avocadoes, the first step that could have removed some preventive stakes was last week, when President Kenyatta proposed again the curfew until next September 26 and forced restaurants in Kenya to serve beer in the glass with the bottle of ginger-ale next to it (i'm joking, obviously...)
In any case, these are restrictions that would only partially ruin a vacation or an extended stay of a traveler or a Malpensa-Mombasa commuter.
The second stage is the most important and is a European competition that is also played in Italy. Or rather to which Italy assists by cheering on who will win.
Next September 7 there will be news about the decrees that, at least formally, still keep our country closed to its citizens who want to go beyond the continent for tourism, and that on their return oblige them to respect the 14 days of quarantine.
In case Europe and Italy should confirm the decision, let's forget about charter flights soon.
As the Italian companies and tour operators have flashed (which are practically one and the same as never before, see Alpitour), if there is still a month of extension of these restrictions and no certainty about the immediate future, the planning of the winter season with vacation packages in the tropical resorts where the climate (which seems to be also the Covid-19) has always been an additional attraction, will also disappear.
Difficult for those who are used to the "Winter Sea" which is not the one sung by Enrico Ruggeri, to throw themselves on the snows of our house or opt for the Christmas vacations in Oslo, despite the possibility to finally see Santa Claus in his natural habitat and reindeer, fallow deer and ibex instead of the usual leopards, rhinos and giraffes.
You joke, but the situation for many tourism entrepreneurs in Kenya is tragic and no one above seems to care about it, except some drones that continue undaunted to promote virtual vacations that also cost less and you're sure that wi-fi is fast and takes everywhere.
There are those who take it for granted that they will start talking about "mass tourism" again in July 2021 and those who consider the latter as incurable optimists and think 2024 to review decent numbers.
It also depends on where you will see them: a disused hotel with cobwebs instead of makuti and water lilies in the pool or directly in the Court to escape foreclosure?
We appeal to the second certainty: to resist because Africa is not forgotten and when you dream of it from afar it is even more beautiful. It will not be the bureaucracy of the virus, nor the virus of bureaucracy that will keep thousands of human beings away for a long time where humanity was born and emigrated long before it broke down.
