Ready to celebrate 60 years of Malindi Fishing Festival

From 16th to 18th october lights on the famous competition

12-10-2020 by Freddie del Curatolo

Malindi si back to fish for sport and at the same time to celebrate an important anniversary.
The seven months of the pandemic, with the consequent closure of clubs and aggregative activities of all kinds, not to mention the tourism that still suffers the lack of travellers from the rest of the world, take us back to last February, when in addition to a Kenyan coast full of tourists and fans of the Indian Ocean, we attended the Malindi Fishing Festival which is held twice a year.
The second edition in 2020 arrives this weekend, after the Malindi Sea Fishing Club reopened ten days ago, after the new government regulations.
Malindi Sea Fishing Club celebrates the 60th anniversary of the first deep-sea fishing competition, which took place in October 1960, one year after the Club was founded by a group of British fishing enthusiasts. After having been for half a century where the Tangier restaurant is now located (it must be said that until 30 years ago the sea practically reached the road), in 2010 it moved to the other side of the seafront, in a quiet atmosphere with garden, bar and by reservation also a restaurant run by chef Eddie Aniere. Obviously to access the Sea Fishing you need to become a member.
This weekend there will be two different competitions, on Friday 16th October the festival will start the Churchill Trophy, a competition that rewards those who fish the biggest specimen with the thinnest line. On Saturday and Sunday the real competition, with two traditional appointments that tell the story of white fishermen's Malindi: the crew and boat auction (Friday afternoon) and the final prize-giving ceremony with the barbecue and endless beers.
We'll tell you all the rest in the video below and we'll do it also on the weekend.
Welcome Back Malindi Fishing Festival!
