Tarmack Watamu-Lonno Lodge road is ready

MP Owen Baya: "Ready to start phase two".

24-08-2020 by Freddie del Curatolo

We had announced earlier this month the start of asphalting work on the road from Watamu to Jacaranda Bay. This is the first of three lots of the coastal stretch that will join Malindi to Watamu.
The works as it is known have been announced several times over the last twenty years, only to be postponed on time for various reasons.
This time, thanks also to the interest and willingness of the Honorable Owen Baya, Member of Parliament of Kilifi North, a district of which Watamu is also a member, after the awarding of the contract for the works, the levelling of the already existing dirt and stony road has actually started. And here are the results, the first 4.5 kilometers from Fortamu to Jacaranda Resort have not yet been completely covered (unlike what was announced and that seemed to be evident from the photos, the asphalt for now arrives only at the Lonno Lodge) and will allow a fast connection between the town and the beautiful bay. By the end of the year the following project should begin to be seen.
"Seeing is believing - is Baya's comment on socials - I had to see and test this road to believe that my 3 years of (in)experience in politics can actually make a road that people with 35 years of experience have not been able to take. Phase two is about to begin and phase three has already been planned.
In the meantime now in 5 minutes from Watamu we go to the Jacaranda and hopefully the road will be completed as soon as possible. First very important step towards a connection that will be flywheel for the tourism of the two destinations.

This time it looks like we are through.
The Kilifi government gave the contract to a Chinese company for the first work of maintenance of the Mayungu road, which leads from Casuarina in Watamu.
