Monkeys are back in Malindi and Watamu

Colobus and baboons go near the sea because of deforestation

Not always the bad news they bring as many, sometimes it rains in the dry and not wet. The inevitable progress that is also coming in the coastal tourist towns of Malindi and Watamu, with its problems of deforestation to build new homes and sheds, and climate change that makes the most arid land at certain times of the year on the coast, are causing some animal species seek new habitats to better move around and find food and situations favorable to their life and reproduction.
In this case, according to data from two environmental groups that have conducted studies in Watamu and Mida Creek, they are returning to the sea, even in Malindi which had almost disappeared, monkeys and baboons.
At Watamu in the Turtle Bay area reviewing the colobus, which usually inhabit another tourist resort in Kenya sea, Diani Beach.
But it is increasingly likely to see the baboons, both among the large marine fouling Casuarina Malindi (between Kilili Baharini and Dorado Cottages) than on the Malindi-Gede road. We know that in the Gede forest baboons are numerous. Many of them are moving from the Arabuko Sokoke forest because of the work contracted out by the Chinese in search of natural gas and oil in the vicinity. Jobs that a few months ago they stopped.
Someone in the area also said that monkeys and dogs, Gede, would be sold to the Chinese smuggling themselves to be eaten.
But, despite the decline of these species in 2015, there is no evidence that this happened.
