Two renowned hotels, a bar-restaurant and at least twenty rooms.
This is the account of the fire that broke out on Friday evening on the beach of Bamburi, a tourist resort just outside Mombasa.
Indiana Hotel and its restaurant, The Beach Hut, have been almost completely destroyed, causing damage of around 600 thousand euros.
The flames, according to the first reconstructions, started from the kitchen area of the Indiana Hotel restaurant and spread quickly due to the strong wind and makuti roofs of the restaurant, which would have favoured the flames attack also to the adjoining hotel, the largest Bamburi Beach Hotel.
Fortunately, the latter only suffered damage at the reception desk and 4 of the 200 rooms, 60% of which were occupied by international tourists.
"We will be able to guarantee them a good continuation of their holiday" said the director of Bamburi Beach.
The Indiana Hotel owners have instead declared that the structure will be rebuilt without the use of makuti roofs, which have often been the main cause of devastating fires and not easy to tame immediately.
