Medical tourism, Kenya coast is perfect

More services and lower prices, what we need to compete

Kenya's tourist accommodation can be not only fabulous safaris in Maasai Mara or Tsavo, relaxing sun and sea holidays on the white beaches by the Indian Ocean.
There are other hypothetical outlets, in addition to business tourism and international conferences, to wedding and honeymoon locations or ecotourism.
According to experts in the field, one of the frontiers of the immediate future for Kenya is the "Medical Tourism", which in other countries represents a nice slice of revenue from foreign travelers.
Medical tourism is the way in which people living in a country go abroad to receive better care, in value for money, to those they would have in their own country.
But also to have the same type of treatment, but in more pleasant environments or combining a "destressing" holiday. It must be said that most people who travel for medical treatment do so anyway to spend less.
India, for example, as reported in an investigation by the Kenyan newspaper The Star, is one of the countries that has invested heavily in this sector. Its medical tourism sector is estimated to be worth $300 million a year. By 2020, it is expected to reach 900 million, reaching more than half a million people who will visit it for medical services. Among the most represented citizens, in addition to other African countries for which Kenya would be closer and more comfortable, such as Nigeria, there is also Kenya itself, in addition to neighboring Tanzania!
"Kenya is in a better position to offer medical tourism than other countries in East and Central Africa - explains to the Star Dr. Ahmed Fardousa, director of Nyali Premium Hospital - With all the money that Kenya receives in tourism, the Government should also invest in the health sector, so that it can begin to receive more patients.
Currently, for example, Mombasa County receives patients from other coastal counties and neighbouring Tanzania.
"The coastal destination in Kenya is already known all over the world as a healthy destination, of well-being - says Fardousa - would be the right place to develop medical tourism. Not to mention the demand from the Kenyans themselves: at present, for every foreigner seeking treatment in Kenya, two Kenyans do the same abroad.
In recent months malindikenya.net has been involved in a research by the Italian consultant for tourism in Kenya Roberto Marini, according to which Malindi in particular could have the requirements to host this type of tourism, with a particular focus on the needs and services for the elderly.
