And the lions reached the island of Manda in Lamu.
It sounds incredible, but the inhabitants of one of the largest islands of the archipelago on the north coast of Kenya, for days at night they heard strange roars coming from the most wooded part of the island. As early as two weeks ago, a farmer had turned to the police swearing that he had seen one of them leave his farm after he had cut a goat's throat, but obviously they hadn't believed him.
A few mornings ago, many found the first carcasses of donkeys and cows eaten by what can only be lions, as reported in the Daily Nation.
"They arrived from Boni Forest and crossed the Manda canal at low tide, driven by hunger - the fishermen of Manda are certain - and now they threaten our herds and families. In the villages behind the tourist part of Manda, which in addition to the airport houses prestigious resorts including the beautiful Majlis, now the curfew has tripped and there is fear even to let the children go to school during the day. The Kenya Wildlife Service is now finally on site with its rangers to try to locate the felines and bring them back to the mainland.
