For now the Italians who must enter Kenya will not be subject to any restrictions, if they are not found with symptoms attributable to a suspected coronavirus.
After a series of meetings during the day between the Kenyan Task Force established for the contagion emergency by President Uhuru Kenyatta, with representatives of our institutions, the Government of the African country has decided not to enforce the decision of the Ministry of Health which, according to the voice of its Head of Cabinet Mutahi Kagwe this morning, had proposed the obligation of self-isolation (self-quarantine) of 14 days for each Italian passenger or from Italy.
The decision, reported primarily by the national newspaper Daily Nation, had been confirmed by the Minister himself to other players in the situation and also taken up by our Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the website Viaggiare Sicuri. From there consultations and requests at various levels started, with the intercession of other ministers and parliamentarians, especially to try not to stop tourism and relations with Italy.
Surely those who leave Italy will have to be subjected to controls already on their departure and to be checked and resubmitted upon arrival at the airports of Nairobi and Mombasa, but the isolation will be triggered only for those who have fever or problems with coughs, strong colds and breathing. Neos and Blu Panorama flights will depart regularly this evening with passengers who had booked, and this will be the case for the next few days, except of course for other interventions or worsening of the situation in the two countries or internationally.
Here is the official statement of the Farnesina on the current situation.
