The 2017 edition of the East Africa Classic Safari Rally opened in a fatal way: during yesterday's stage, the second day of the competition, an accident involved the director and patron of the Rally, Jaydeep Vohra, tycoon owner of the Sarova hotel chain.
In a subsequent accident, the Italian driver Stefano Rocca, and Pier Daykins a roommate of the Rally, also risked his life.
"Thank God I and Daykins are safe, we are well and have not suffered any injuries. We were really lucky. It is a great displeasure to be already out of the rally. We jumped over a bump and lost control of the car. The car is destroyed and can be repaired, our classic is finished.
In these hours there are hundreds of messages of solidarity arrived to the Vohra family for the loss of their volcanic company captain, a well-known figure throughout Kenya who we have also had the opportunity to know and appreciate. We join in our condolences to the family and the Sarova group.
